Two soldiers killed in al-Qaida attack in south Yemen

ADEN, Yemen, April 27 (Xinhua) -- At least two soldiers were killed and five others were injured in an armed attack by al-Qaida militants at the entrance of Zunjibar city in Yemen's southern province of Abyan on Wednesday, a local security official said.
Gunmen of al-Qaida wing attacked a military vehicle of the army forces in a military checkpoint in Zunjibar, killing at least two soldiers and wounding five others.
The official told Xinhua on condition of anonymity that al- Qaida militants used firearms and grenades in their attack in al- Musaimir intersection in Zunjibar.
A deployment of al-Qaida supporters in the Abyan province distributed warning calls of targeting some security offices recently, the official said.
Abyan, some 480 km south of the capital Sanaa, is a key stronghold of resurgent al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) which has carried out frequent attacks against the Yemeni security and military personnel since 2009.
Yemen has witnessed three-month-long anti-government protests that demand an immediate end to the 33-year rule of President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
