ADEN, Yemen, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Warplanes of the Yemeni air forces bombed several al-Qaida hideouts on Monday, killing at least four civilians and six members of the terrorist groupin the restive province of Abyan, a local army officer and witnesses said.
The officer told Xinhua on condition of anonymity that four air raids were carried out by theYemeni warplanes on the al-Qaida hideouts and fortifications near some residential areas in Jaar city, leaving at least four civilians and six militants dead.
The bombings also targeted a local mosque along with a hospital where dozens of al-Qaida militants gathered in, he added.
Four dead bodies of civilians were seen lying on the street after bombings, said local residents.
Meanwhile, a local tribal chief said that an al-Qaida suicide bomber was captured before blowing himself up at the central market of the Luader district.
Recently, a number of army brigades made progress towards the al-Qaida-seized city of Zinjibar, the provincial capital of Abyan after fierce battles with the terrorist group in various areas of the city, according to senior army officials.
The army forces have engaged in fierce battles for more than three months with al-Qaidamilitants after the latter took control of the Zinjibar city along with other surrounding cities late in May.
