4 tribesmen killed, 3 injured in car bomb attack in southern Yemen

ADEN, Yemen, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least four pro-government tribesmen, including a tribal leader, were killed and three others were seriously injured on Sunday evening when a booby-trapped car exploded nearby a house of the prominent tribal leader in Yemen's southern province of Abyan, local sources said.
A local tribal chief told Xinhua on condition of anonymity that a booby-trapped car exploded nearby a house of the prominent tribal leader in Amsara area, east of Zinjibar, the provincial capital of Abyan province, killing the leader and three of his bodyguards, and injuring three others.
Fierce clashes were still going on between the al-Qaida militants and tribal fighters in the outskirts of the coastal city of Shakra in Abyan, which was seized earlier this week by the terrorist group members.
Abyan, some 480 km south of the capital Sanaa, is a key stronghold of the al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
The AQAP recently took advantage of the fragile situation in Yemen amid continuous anti-government protests and insecurity to expand its military operations against the army forces in Yemen's southern and eastern main provinces.
