Separatist gunmen ambush military patrol, killing 3 soldiers in south Yemen

ADEN, Yemen, July 9 (Xinhua) -- At least two soldiers and an army officer were killed in an ambush by separatist gunmen targeted a military patrol in Yemen's southern province of al- Dhalea on Saturday, a local official told Xinhua.
A military patrol was ambushed by gunmen believed belong to the separatists of the Southern Movement, killing at least two soldiers along with an army officer in Jehaf area, the official said on condition of anonymity.
Heavy shootings and clashes following the ambush for the military patrol were still going on in the area, the official said, adding that some of the attackers were injured.
South and north Yemen unified peacefully in 1990, but the relationship had deteriorated by 1994, when a southern insurgency was quelled in a civil war. Calls for separation were renewed in 2007.
