Gov't troops clash with armed tribesmen in Yemen's Taiz

ADEN, Yemen, June 12 (Xinhua ) -- Armed tribesmen supported by army defectors on Sunday carried out a number of attacks targeting the government troops in Yemen's southern province of Taiz, local officials and witnesses told Xinhua.
Violent clashes occurred near al-Thawra hospital between units of the army forces stationed in that area and the armed tribesmen along with army dissidents, injuring three soldiers of the Republican Guards forces, the official told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
A tribal mediation aimed at ceasefire led by a powerful tribesman failed to stop the clashes, said the official.
Meanwhile, Ahmed al-Rajehi, a local resident, told Xinhua that three loud explosions rocked Taiz city amid heavy gunfire, adding that shells hit the buildings adjacent to the Credit Bank.
Sporadic gunshots could be heard without any casualties available until now, he added.
