Defected soldiers, tribal militants besiege Yemeni governmental buildings in capital


SANAA, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Yemeni defected soldiers and anti- government armed tribesmen besieged several governmental buildings in capital Sanaa on Monday, security official and witnesses said.
Ministry of Religious Endowment and Islamic Affairs, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Official Saba news agency and Yemen airways building were surrounded by the anti-government soldiers and militants after fierce clashes, some of them were being under attack.
An official of Ministry of Industry and Trade said that the militants supported by the opposition were strafing their building, whose windows were all smashed, while all the guards of the ministry were died.
The elite Republican Guards backed with armored vehicles, tanks and heavy weapons were dispatched to the scene and tried to regain control of the situation.
Meanwhile, heavy gunshots were heard in downtown Sanaa.
