Two protestors killed, five injured by police in S Yemen

ADEN, Yemen, April 13 (Xinhua) -- At least two anti-government protesters were killed and five others seriously injured when police forces opened heavy fire to disperse a demonstration, which was held to coincide with a call for civil disobedience by some activists in Yemen's southern port city of Aden on Wednesday, local medic and eyewitness said. Police forces using live ammunition tried to enter by force some streets in al-Mansoura district, which were blocked by the protesters with cement barricades and stones. Among the killed was a 16-year-old protester, said Mohammed Salim, one of the protest organizers. The injured, some of them in critical conditions, were taken by ambulances to the al-Naqeeb hospital, according to a local doctor. In al-Mu'alla district of Aden, army troops stationed in the Madram intersection opened heavy fire on protesters. No casualties were reported, Salim said. More backup tanks and armored vehicles were deployed in the city and managed to break up more blocked roads, he added.
