Security official, 3 soldiers injured in ambush in south Yemen

DEN, Yemen, April 3 (Xinhua) -- The commander of the traffic police in Yemen's southern province of Al-Dhalea, along with three traffic policemen, were injured on Sunday when armed men of the separatist Southern Movement ambushed their car, a local security officer told Xinhua.
Commander Saleh Obaid Hussein and three traffic policemen, were injured in gunfire when the separatist militants launched an ambush in al-Jalilah area, the official who asked to be anonymous said.
A number of military patrols were attacked by armed separatists in that area during the past two months, killing and injuring many soldiers, he said.
Those elements also distributed leaflets containing threats to target a number of security officials and government facilities in the province, the official added.
Northern and southern Yemen were unified in 1990 according to a deal between the People's General Congress and the Yemeni Socialist Party. However, the deal fell apart, leading to a crisis between the two allies, which developed into a civil war in 1994.
Nowadays, secession tendency in south Yemen is simmering, which calls for disengagement from the north and the restoration of the southern state.
