Police arrest 44 people for looting in south Yemen

ADEN, Yemen, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Yemeni security authorities on Tuesday managed to arrest 44 people accused of looting and sabotage actions in Yemen's southern port city of Aden, a provincial security official told Xinhua.
"Those responsible for Tuesday's violence and looting must be held accountable," the official said, adding that "the security forces will refer those elements into investigation procedure and to get punishment for what they have committed."
Aden witnessed arson and looting Monday evening and Tuesday morning in a number of night clubs, restaurants and hotels. More backup army forces were deployed to the city Tuesday as a result.
Scores of Yemeni government officials, diplomats, army and security officers have declared their support for the weeks-long pro-reform protests since Monday.
