ADEN, Yemen, July 24 (Xinhua) -- At least eight soldiers were killed and 20 others were injured when a booby-trapped car targeted a military patrol in Yemen's southern port city of Aden on Sunday, local officials and witnesses told Xinhua.
A local military official said on condition of anonymity that a booby-trapped car targeting a military patrol and exploded nearby the Defense Air Forces base in al-Mansoura district, leaving eight soldiers killed and 20 others injured.
Local residents told Xinhua that heavy gunshots could be heard after a huge explosion rocked the al-Mansoura district nearby the Defense Air Forces base.
Another local security official told Xinhua that the bomb attack "bore the hallmark of al-Qaida group."
Last Wednesday, a British maritime expert was killed in a booby- trapped car bomb in Aden.
The southern port city witnessed a series of bomb attacks and explosions targeting a number of government facilities and military bases as government officials accused al-Qaida militants of masterminding and carrying out the attacks against the army forces.
