British maritime expert killed in explosion in S Yemen, al-Qaida blamed: official

SANAA, July 20 (Xinhua) -- A suspected al-Qaida car bomb targeting a security convoy in Yemen's southern port city of Aden on Wednesday killed a British maritime expert, a provincial security official and witnesses told Xinhua.
A huge explosion took place in front of the tourist Hotel of Aden Plaza in al-Mualla district in Aden, destroying completely a car and killing its driver, a British maritime expert, according to witnesses.
Meanwhile, a security official told Xinhua that David Moket, a British expert working with the Arab Maritime Survey Company, was killed when his car exploded.
The official added that al-Qaida was blamed on the explosion incident.
Another official said that the explosion also killed some Yemeni intelligence officers.
Investigations are underway to probe the cause of the incident.
The civil defense vehicles rushed immediately to the scene and put out the fire.
